Anime hair can be fairly complex, I have added a simple, but effective head of hair to the face we have drawn in the previous tutorials. As with really hair, anime hair is also made up of strands but in anime, they often clump together the hair. Using Clumps of hair is the simplest form of Anime Hair, to give the hair more depth often the bottom line on the hair will be more curvy than the top. In some cases this can be very exaggerated, in others you can hardly see it, but it is this method that gives the hair the anime look. By adding the clumps together you can form the whole hair style. Add more clumps and stands for more complex hair styles. (Read more…)

Most anime drawings start with the face. For the beginner, this can be quite difficult, but following some simple rules and a little practice almost anyone can do it.
Every thing starts with a cross, below is the center cross in a face looking in all directions. You could easily add eyes, a nose and a mouth to these and you would already have a basic anime face.

There are many different styles of Anime and these tutorials are not designed to teach you how to draw a specific style of anime. The aim is that you can learn the basics and then develop your own style. The gallery is a good place to look for artwork created by other artists, you can see varying styles and techniques that they have used. These tutorials are not designed to be the only way to draw anime, it is mearly one way of doing it.
Before you start drawing you characters you should realize that every character starts with the head and face. Drawing the face can be quite hard for the beginner, but with a little practice can be done quite easily.
In Part I, we will explain the whole process of drawing the head, face, eyes, etc.. As well as including some basic templates you can download and get started on.
